Back to 3WD!

Ok this was drafted for a very long time and I forgot to post it and it's going up extremely belatedly because I'm already in the middle of midterms and this post is about the term starting OTL... But enjoy.

I came back to 3WD for 早期帰寮 (early return to dorm?) some time back, but everyone else only came back on the 31st, and the new students arrived on the 1st of September!!! Above picture is from their welcome party (much like the one in this post).

I don't have any pictures of the new kids yet, but I'll prolly take some when they start initiation. I can't believe that exactly a year ago it was me sitting there listening to Alyssa- the culture head back then- host and welcome us and explain initiation. This time, it's me in that spot, explaining stuff and hosting events for newcomers... and I just realised I forgot to write my first year reflection.

Our dorm president at the welcome party, looking like a gangsta.

1:9 dead asleep waiting to get ready for the surprise party.

Dorm prez's belly-button.

And 3WD cat + kitten outside our social room!!!

New hair! +OOTD

Top: g.u.
Skirt: Topshop
Shoes: idk, got it off Runway Channel
Necklace: ASOS

Soooooooo. It's dark.

Here's the story. Yes, there is a story to how I got this hair when I got it. I had two appointments at two hair salons exactly one week apart. The first was a salon in Shibuya to get my hair cut, permed and treated for really cheap. The second was to get my hair dyed medium-brown on the top and a gradient/streaks of hot pink from the bottom up. My dream hair- curly, with locks of pink. I mean, I'd bleached my hair already and since I had to suffer so much damage as consequence, I might as well take advantage of it to the fullest and put some crazy colour in, right?

But no. I got to the salon in Shibs for my perm all excited to never ever have to painstakingly curl my hair ever again, only for them to touch and inspect my hair and asked if I'd bleached it. Well yes, it's blindingly blonde. What's that? Bleached hair CAN'T BE PERMED?!?!?!?!?!? What did I go all the way to Shibs for (besides shopping, I mean)? I had booked my appointment on a perm coupon so I just sat there dumbfounded not knowing how to follow up, speechless. So I ended up telling them to trim my hair anyway, get rid of maximum 3-4cm just to remove split ends, give me bangs, and dye all my hair dark brown.

The reason I decided to go all-brown was because honestly, I had been hesitant to go for my pinkifying appointment. Not because I didn't want pink hair- believe me, I'd have made my whole head pink if it wasn't hell to maintain- but rather because the dye job was estimated to cost over ¥20000 when I asked the salon. I didn't have 20k to throw at them for pink ends that would fade in less than a month, so I caved in and went all dark. It's gonna start fading in awhile anyway because no colour can cling to bleached hair for long, but I'm kinda glad I went dark because I have an important meeting/interview coming up and light hair is frowned upon very ferociously in the working society of Japan (as is my makeup style and nails and fashion in general).

And that is the story of how I ended up with limp, straight, dark brown hair and kinda messed-up bangs that I hate (I don't hate the dark brown that much, only how it's fading to light brown so quickly). The selca pictures make it look like I have gradient purple ends but I assuredly don't- it's just lighting and colour adjustment.

Incidentally, at the point in which I publish this, I've already dyed my hair darker brown a second time within a week after I had it dyed first, because it had faded back to light again before my interview. It's faded again and is now brown where my roots were, and ash-green-blonde where the bleached section is.

Best nails ever

I've had gelish nails done in Singapore many times over the past two years, and DIYed them a lot too. In fact, next to food, purikura/selcas and uni/dorm tags, nails are my most blogged about topic.

However, since coming here slightly over a year ago, I hadn't gotten my nails done professionally even once. Until now. Moreover, Japanese nail salons are a lot better than Singapore's, from service to skills and quality. Of course, the price differs in proportion. They also don't use gel polish/gelish, but soft gel- which comes in a tub instead of a polish bottle- which is a lot harder and longer lasting.

So this was actually my first time getting nails done in Japan, and getting soft gel nails. I was also paying quite a bit for it, so I had to choose an awesome, complicated design to make the most of it. And I did! It's actually based off a design from Nail Up September but it was too complicated to be done within 2 hours, so my nailist and I discussed and did an "arrange" based off it, but simpler.

How is it~?

Makeup

Actually pretty sure everybody knows this by now already, but... I love makeup. Well, to be more specific, I love putting makeup on myself. My friends often tell me I should be a makeup artist but frankly, I'm not entirely keen on the idea of making other people look good- I'm really only interested in making myself look better, (excuse me for a moment while I whip out some hashtags that really have no place on this platform;) sorry #notsorry #hardtruth. Many girls out there agree with me- I'm just the only one who cares little enough to bluntly admit it.

But over the past year, living in a girls' dorm with like 36 other females, I have been unable to escape doing other people's makeup, and I actually enjoyed it those few times. Sometimes I even did it out of my own will (to experiment on different eye shapes etc. or just because the person doesn't usually wear that kind of makeup if any at all). So here's a documentation of a few of my projects over the past year (that I have visual records of). Most of these photos have already been on my blog at least once before, but this is a collective so enjoy.

I think this might actually have been the first time I put makeup on anyone besides my mom, and Mai's eye shape is so drastically different from mine that I didn't know what to do. I picked up makeup skills specifically to make myself look better, so my techniques are all catered to my facial parts and nobody else's- one of the main reasons I could never be a makeup artist. I also dressed and accessorised her to make her the sweet little princess she really totally isn't. That's Alyssa's dress.

Speaking of Alyssa, probably the second person I've ever put makeup on and the only caucasian (that I probably ever will, too). It's not the one pictured 'cos I've done her makeup a few times but I never really took pictures. She usually asks for really natural makeup, so here it is.

And then 1:9 and the other 17s came into the dorm. I think I've done makeup for half of the 17 Aprils so far, and it's only been a term. This is another example of boring nights with nothing better to do. I turned her into me.

And Momoko!!! (Photos stolen from her 'cos I didn't take any then) I did her makeup, hair, and styled her for her birthday~~~

Yurie ♡ I think I've done her makeup at least one or two other times besides this one, but this was night-out makeup in Singapore and probably the heaviest makeup she's ever had on ahaha.

Parute/Parthe/Palty (still do not know how I should spell it in English for パルテ), on the same night as Yurie's above in Singapore! She looks a little like Itano Tomomi~ (AKB48, google it.)

Another random night where I was bored and Mai and I happened to be watching a makeup tutorial. She said she liked the makeup and wanted it, so I said I'd do it right then, before she was supposed to go hang out at Canada House (nothing to dress up for). So I did. It doesn't look like in the tutorial (mainly because the person in the video was of a totally different ethnicity and Mai's asian-asian), but it's still a pretty awesome party look.

And finally, fresh from last night, I did Taisho's makeup in the middle of the night because, yes, once again I was bored. Not my first time doing her makeup either, but previously she requested it light and natural because she was going out, but this time I could do whatever I wanted. I also later curled her hair and dressed her up, but she doesn't want those photos publicised so they shall remain private.

Overall, my favourite person to do makeup on is still myself, because I think I do the best transformations on myself than anyone else. After all, I am most familiar with my own face and know every single angle and feature and flaw and how to bring the best out of it, so nobody else can do my makeup better, and I can't do anybody else's makeup as well as my own. It is fun, though, doing makeup on a variety of eye/face shapes, although I notice a very distinct style in the eye makeup I do regardless of shape or size.

But no, I still do not see myself becoming a makeup artist in any near future. Sure, I enjoyed doing all the makeup featured in this post and others, but I mean, what girl wants to make other people look as good as (or even, God forbid, better than) herself anyway? Is that really just me? If you're a girl, I challenge you to dig deep down and tell me you actually don't. Because if you do, you're probably lying. ;)

Random 遊びとか

More purikura! I gave in and decided to pay for the purikura service on my phone so I can download every single one now~

These were from when Sayaka and I went to Harajuku to play/shop.

At a cafe in Omotesando.

My clothing haul from Harajuku and Shibuya (nearly everything I got, pictured and not pictured, was 50% off).

And these are from when Mai and I went to Sakai (the train station) just to eat and I insisted on taking purikura.

One night, I was actually so bored that I did experimental makeup from some video on Mai (it's supposed to be Beyonce makeup).

Safe to say summer holidays are pretty boring. I'd actually rather school start so that all my friends would come back and all our dorm events can resume.

第三女子寮 3rd Women's Dorm

I always said I was going to do this post, especially since there is a lack of 3女 information on the internet for prospective 入寮生, but this isn't the post I imagined I was going to make about it. I imagined photos of the front of 3女, the social room, the rooms and how the dorm is run etc. Well, I do have photos of the rooms but I highly doubt it's going to up the appeal of 3女.

So to start off on a lighter note, here's the 3女 sweatpants we got recently (ok not really)!!! At the first and last 3女 karaoke of spring term.

So I really have nothing but photos of my room to show for this post. What I really wanted to see before applying to dorms last year was what the rooms were like. I found photos of 4WD and 2WD rooms online, and comparing that to the room layout graphs in the dorm introduction booklet, I could surmise that 3女 rooms were pretty small, and expected that. It turned out small, yes, but surprisingly very livable in. I never actually find myself thinking the rooms are too small, although in my and Mai's case, we have too much garbage on the floor and too little space to walk around in- not the fault of the room size, though.

Above is a room layout sketch we had to make for the 3女 booklet some time back. I'd just like to emphasize that it is a scaled, precise drawing. I included every single piece of garbage that was in the room at that time.

So, time for real photos of the room! Over the past 10 months, I've posted many photos documenting the mess that is whichever room I live in. I must note, however, that Mai and I live in 201, the corner room, and corner rooms are about a foot wider than regular rooms (201, 210, 301, 310). So what you see here, 201, is a slight (hardly noticeable) bit larger than the average room. Pictured above is what 201 usually looks like, but don't worry, depending on the resident of the room, furniture arrangement and mess varies.

What my table generally looks like. (I don't actually use it for anything apart from storage, and my chair serves as a clothes rack.)

What Mai's closet looks like.

What our room looked like before we decided we needed to clean up (and also because summer break was gonna start and we had to move out).

In the midst of cleanup (yes, Mai is sniffing a jacket that was on the floor to see if it was clean).

And FINALLY, the cleanest the room has been since we moved in. We look like we have a rug, but it's actually a blanket that I have to return to the bedding company. I put that down because the floor was way too dirty to walk on and we didn't feel like vacuuming or mopping.

And 12 hours after we cleaned up, it became this.

But after a few more days, we HAD to clean up properly to move out. And THIS would be the cleanest our room has been EVER. Like since before we moved in or something. Except we didn't vacuum so the floor's still disgusting.

My juice carton collection outside our room in the corridor. This is only less than half of what I didn't clear and left unwashed for up to 4 months. It grew moldy and unrecyclable and I had to clear it all right before I moved out.

Although my room might not be the best advertisement for 3女, it actually is a really great place and has become my home. I never wanna graduate or leave 3女. Ever.

Singapore FOOD

BLACK PEPPER CRAB BLACK PEPPER CRAB BLACK PEPPER CRAB

The promised Singapore food post is here. Unfortunately, I took fewer photos than I thought I did, and a lot of other good dishes and finally-satisfied cravings aren't pictured here. This BPC was actually my last meal in Singapore (at JUMBO), but the best, so I thought it would be appropriate to start with.

Also JUMBO, cereal prawn.

My first meal in Singapore- BPC at Mei Ling street (or was it Stirling?).

With sweet and sour prawns.

And a few days later at the same place, Yurie and Parute's first dinner in Singapore- BPC.

And cereal prawn.

Chilli Crab Xiao Long Bao at Din Tai Fung.

Chicken Rice.

French cuisine- lobster spaghetti that cost more than a whole crab (or two, depending on which restaurant).

Thai food- basil fish rice.

CURRY FRIES @ EWF.

And Skinny Wings.

And Har Jeong Kai nuggets which taste like ebisen.

And that's all the photos I have of food. I also had other things like Shihlin chicken, Marché rosti and more I don't remember.
